In a groundbreaking move to encourage global citizenship and promote international cooperation, the United Nations announced today the launch of a new initiative called the “Free Passport Program.” Under this program, individuals from all over the world will have the opportunity to apply for a free passport, allowing them to travel to different countries without the financial burden of obtaining a passport.
This initiative comes at a time when the world is facing increasing challenges in terms of migration, climate change, and political instability. By removing the financial barrier to travel, the Free Passport Program aims to foster greater understanding and connectivity among people from different cultures and backgrounds.
“This is a historic moment for the United Nations and for the world,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a press conference announcing the launch of the program. “The Free Passport Program will empower individuals to explore new horizons, engage with diverse communities, and contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous world.”
The Free Passport Program will be open to individuals of all ages and nationalities, with a focus on promoting inclusivity and diversity. Applicants will be required to submit a personal statement outlining their reasons for wanting a free passport, as well as demonstrating their commitment to promoting peace and understanding across borders.
“We want to make sure that this program reaches those who may not have had the opportunity to travel before,” said Maria Fernandez, the UN’s Director of Global Citizenship. “We believe that by providing free passports to individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the world, we can create a global network of ambassadors for peace and cooperation.”
To support the Free Passport Program, the United Nations has partnered with several governments, non-profit organizations, and corporations to provide funding and logistical support. In addition to covering the costs of passport issuance, the program will also offer travel grants to selected applicants to help offset the expenses of their trips.
“We are thrilled to be part of this initiative and to help make the world a more connected and compassionate place,” said Mark Thompson, CEO of a leading travel company that is sponsoring the program. “Travel has the power to break down barriers and build bridges between people, and we are excited to support the Free Passport Program in its mission to promote global citizenship.”
The Free Passport Program is expected to be rolled out in phases, starting with a pilot program in select countries before expanding to a wider audience. Interested individuals can visit the program’s website to learn more about eligibility criteria and application deadlines.
“We hope that the Free Passport Program will inspire a new generation of global citizens who are committed to building a more inclusive and peaceful world,” said Secretary-General Guterres. “By breaking down barriers to travel and fostering cross-cultural exchange, we can create a brighter future for all of humanity.”
