Carnival Cruise Line Adds Passport Requirement for All Guests on International Voyages

In an effort to enhance security and streamline the boarding process for its international cruises, Carnival Cruise Line has announced a new policy requiring all guests to possess a valid passport before embarking on their voyage. The policy change, which will go into effect on January 1, 2023, aims to ensure that all guests have the necessary documentation to enter the ports of call included in their itinerary.

“We believe that requiring all guests to have a passport is a necessary step to ensure the safety and security of everyone on board our ships,” said Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line. “Having a passport provides a level of identification and verification that is crucial when traveling to different countries.”

The new policy will apply to all guests, regardless of age, on Carnival Cruise Line’s international voyages. This includes cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and other destinations outside of the United States. Guests who do not have a passport will not be able to board the ship and will be subject to cancellation fees in accordance with Carnival’s booking policies.

“We understand that this new policy may inconvenience some guests who have previously traveled without a passport, but we believe that the added security and peace of mind it provides is worth the additional effort,” Duffy added.

Carnival Cruise Line is offering several options for guests who need to obtain a passport before their voyage. The cruise line has partnered with a passport expediting service to help guests expedite the passport application process and ensure that they receive their passport in time for their cruise. Additionally, Carnival will be hosting passport fairs at select embarkation ports to assist guests in applying for passports on-site.

“We want to make the passport application process as easy as possible for our guests,” said Duffy. “That’s why we’re offering resources and assistance to help them get the documentation they need in a timely manner.”

The new passport requirement is part of Carnival Cruise Line’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security on its ships. In addition to requiring passports for international voyages, Carnival has implemented a number of health and safety protocols in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures include mandatory pre-boarding health screenings, enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures, and reduced capacity on board.

“We are committed to providing our guests with a safe and enjoyable cruise experience,” said Duffy. “The new passport requirement is just one of the many steps we are taking to ensure the health and well-being of everyone on board our ships.”

Guests who have already booked a cruise with Carnival Cruise Line are encouraged to check their passport validity and make any necessary arrangements to ensure compliance with the new policy. For more information about the passport requirement and how to apply for a passport, guests can visit Carnival’s website or contact their travel agent.

“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our guests as we implement this new policy,” said Duffy. “We believe that requiring passports for international voyages is a necessary step to enhance security and provide a smooth and seamless boarding experience for everyone on board Carnival Cruise Line.”

As the cruise industry continues to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Carnival Cruise Line remains committed to prioritizing the health and safety of its guests and crew. The new passport requirement is just one of the many ways that Carnival is working to ensure a safe and enjoyable cruise experience for all.
