Georgia State University Launches New ‘GSU Passport’ Program
Atlanta, GA – Georgia State University (GSU) has announced the launch of a new program called ‘GSU Passport,’ which aims to enhance students’ global awareness, cultural understanding, and international experiences. The program, set to roll out in the upcoming academic year, will offer students the opportunity to earn a special designation on their transcript by completing a series of requirements related to global and intercultural learning.
The ‘GSU Passport’ program is designed to help students develop a global mindset and prepare them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Through a combination of coursework, study abroad experiences, language proficiency, and intercultural activities, students will be able to broaden their perspectives and gain valuable skills that will benefit them both academically and professionally.
“We are thrilled to introduce the ‘GSU Passport’ program to our students,” said Dr. Mark Becker, President of Georgia State University. “In today’s globalized society, it is more important than ever for students to have international experience and cultural competence. This program will provide students with the opportunity to expand their horizons and become informed global citizens.”
The ‘GSU Passport’ program consists of four main components:
1. Global Coursework: Students will be required to take a certain number of courses with a global or international focus. These courses may cover topics such as global economics, international politics, world history, or cross-cultural communication.
2. Study Abroad: Students will have the opportunity to participate in study abroad programs in countries around the world. By immersing themselves in different cultures and societies, students will gain a deeper understanding of global issues and perspectives.
3. Language Proficiency: Students will be encouraged to study a foreign language to develop their communication skills and enhance their cross-cultural understanding. Proficiency in a second language is a valuable asset in today’s global job market.
4. Intercultural Activities: Students will engage in various intercultural activities on campus and in the community to further enhance their global awareness. These activities may include attending cultural events, participating in international festivals, or volunteering with multicultural organizations.
To earn the ‘GSU Passport’ designation on their transcript, students will need to complete a certain number of requirements in each of the four components. The program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at Georgia State University, regardless of their major or field of study.
“We believe that the ‘GSU Passport’ program will provide our students with a unique and enriching educational experience,” said Dr. Wendy Hensel, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia State University. “By participating in this program, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to navigate an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.”
The launch of the ‘GSU Passport’ program comes at a time when universities across the country are recognizing the importance of global and intercultural education. By offering students the opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives and experiences, Georgia State University is taking a proactive step towards preparing its students for success in the global marketplace.
“We are excited to see the impact that the ‘GSU Passport’ program will have on our students’ academic and personal development,” said Dr. Yves A. Bertrand, Vice President of International Initiatives at Georgia State University. “We believe that this program will not only enhance students’ educational experiences but also equip them with the skills and competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.”
As the ‘GSU Passport’ program prepares to launch, students at Georgia State University are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to participate in this innovative and immersive program. With its focus on global awareness, cultural understanding, and international experiences, the program is poised to become a cornerstone of the university’s commitment to preparing students for success in the globalized world of the 21st century.
