JMU Passport Events: Opening Doors to Global Opportunities
Harrisonburg, VA – James Madison University (JMU) is gearing up for another exciting year of their Passport Events program, aimed at providing students with opportunities to explore the world and expand their cultural horizons. With a variety of events scheduled throughout the academic year, JMU Passport Events is paving the way for students to become global citizens and engage with diverse perspectives from around the globe.
One of the highlights of the Passport Events program is the Study Abroad Fair, which takes place every fall semester. This event brings together representatives from various study abroad programs, giving students the chance to learn about different opportunities to study in countries all over the world. From programs in Europe to Asia, Africa to Australia, students have a plethora of options to choose from when it comes to studying abroad.
“I never thought I would have the chance to study in another country, but thanks to the Study Abroad Fair, I found the perfect program for me,” says Sara, a junior at JMU who participated in a semester-long program in Spain. “It was an unforgettable experience that broadened my perspective and gave me a newfound appreciation for different cultures.”
In addition to the Study Abroad Fair, JMU Passport Events also offers cultural workshops, international film screenings, and guest lectures from esteemed scholars and experts in various fields. These events provide students with a platform to engage in meaningful discussions about global issues and learn from professionals who have firsthand experience in international affairs.
“We want our students to not only excel academically, but also become well-rounded individuals who are prepared to take on the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world,” says Dr. Lisa Brown, Director of the Center for Global Engagement at JMU. “Through the Passport Events program, we aim to foster a sense of curiosity, empathy, and open-mindedness among our students.”
One of the most popular events in the Passport Events program is the Global Village, an annual celebration of cultural diversity that showcases different traditions, cuisines, and performances from around the world. Students have the opportunity to interact with international students, try traditional foods, and participate in cultural activities that highlight the richness and beauty of various cultures.
“The Global Village is my favorite event of the year,” says Jason, a senior at JMU. “It’s amazing to see how much diversity we have on campus and how much we can learn from each other. I always leave feeling inspired and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant community.”
As JMU continues to expand its global initiatives and foster a more inclusive campus environment, the Passport Events program plays a vital role in engaging students in meaningful conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
