Passport application forms can now be obtained and submitted at select post offices across the United States, making the process more convenient for individuals looking to travel abroad.
The U.S. Department of State recently announced a partnership with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to offer passport services at over 6,000 post offices nationwide. This initiative aims to streamline the passport application process and provide easier access for individuals who may not have easy access to passport acceptance facilities.
Prior to this collaboration, individuals had to visit designated passport acceptance facilities, such as post offices, county clerk offices, or public libraries, to submit their passport application forms in person. This requirement often posed challenges for individuals living in rural areas or those with limited transportation options.
With the new partnership between the Department of State and USPS, individuals can now pick up passport application forms at their local post office, fill them out at their own convenience, and then submit them in person along with any required documents. This eliminates the need for a separate trip to a passport acceptance facility and makes the process more efficient for applicants.
“We are excited to partner with the United States Postal Service to make passport services more accessible to the American public,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken. “By offering passport application forms at post offices, we are making it easier for individuals to apply for a passport and fulfill their travel dreams.”
In addition to providing passport application forms, select post offices will also offer passport photo services for a fee. This service is particularly useful for individuals who may not have access to a nearby pharmacy or photography studio to take their passport photo.
To apply for a passport at a participating post office, individuals must follow the standard application process, which includes filling out Form DS-11, providing proof of U.S. citizenship, showing valid photo identification, and submitting a passport photo. Passport fees vary depending on the type of passport requested (such as a regular adult passport, a minor passport, or a passport card) and whether expedited processing is needed.
The new passport services at post offices are part of the Department of State’s ongoing efforts to improve customer service and increase accessibility for passport applicants. In recent years, the Department has introduced online passport renewal options, expanded the use of appointment-based services at passport agencies, and implemented faster processing times for expedited passport applications.
For individuals who prefer to apply for a passport in person, the option to visit a passport acceptance facility remains available. However, the convenience of obtaining and submitting passport application forms at a local post office is a welcome addition for many Americans.
