San Marino Library Introduces New Passport Program for Book Lovers
In an effort to promote literacy and encourage residents to explore different genres of literature, the San Marino Library has introduced a new “Library Passport” program. The program, which is free for all library cardholders, allows participants to earn stamps for each book they read from a specific list of genres and topics. Once a participant has collected a certain number of stamps, they will receive special rewards and recognition from the library.
The idea for the Library Passport program came about after library staff noticed a decline in the number of younger patrons visiting the library and checking out books. “We wanted to come up with a fun and engaging way to get people excited about reading again,” said Amanda Lopez, the head librarian at the San Marino Library. “By offering incentives and rewards for reading different types of books, we hope to inspire our community to discover new authors and genres they may not have considered before.”
To participate in the Library Passport program, patrons must first pick up a passport booklet at the library. The booklet contains a list of genres and topics, such as mystery, science fiction, historical fiction, biography, and graphic novels. Participants can choose which genres they would like to explore and collect stamps for each book they read from that category. Once they have read a set number of books in a particular genre, they can visit the library to have their passport stamped and receive a prize.
“We wanted to make the program flexible so that participants can choose the genres that interest them the most,” explained Lopez. “Whether you’re a fan of thrillers or romance novels, there’s something for everyone in our Library Passport program.”
The Library Passport program has already generated a buzz among San Marino residents, with many eager to start collecting stamps and earning rewards. “I think it’s a great idea,” said Sarah Thompson, a local book lover. “I love to read, but sometimes I get stuck in a rut and only read the same types of books. The Library Passport program will challenge me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.”
In addition to promoting literacy and encouraging reading diversity, the Library Passport program also aims to foster a sense of community among library patrons. Participants are encouraged to share their reading experiences with others, either by discussing their favorite books with fellow readers or by joining book clubs and discussion groups at the library.
“We wanted to create a sense of camaraderie among our patrons and give them a platform to connect through their love of reading,” said Lopez. “By participating in the Library Passport program, readers can share their thoughts and opinions on books they’ve read and discover new titles recommended by others.”
The Library Passport program is set to launch next month, and library staff are busy preparing for the influx of participants. “We can’t wait to see the impact that this program will have on our community,” said Lopez. “We hope that it will inspire a new generation of readers and reignite the passion for books in our town.”
