Texas A&M University introduces ‘TAMU Passport’ program for international students
In a move to enhance the international student experience, Texas A&M University has officially launched its ‘TAMU Passport’ program. The program, designed to streamline the arrival and integration process for international students, offers a range of services aimed at easing the transition to life on campus and in the United States.
Under the TAMU Passport program, international students will have access to a dedicated team of staff members who will assist with all aspects of their arrival and orientation. This includes visa and immigration support, airport pick-up, housing assistance, academic advising, cultural adjustment workshops, and social events to help students connect with their peers.
“We are thrilled to introduce the TAMU Passport program to our international student community,” said Dr. Kelly M. Morrison, Director of the International Student Services at Texas A&M University. “We understand that coming to a new country can be overwhelming, and our goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible for our students. By providing a range of support services, we hope to help our international students feel welcome and supported from day one.”
The TAMU Passport program has been in development for several months, with input from current international students and staff members who work closely with this student population. The program represents a commitment by Texas A&M University to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their background or nationality.
One of the key components of the program is the orientation sessions held prior to the start of the academic year. These sessions cover a range of topics, including campus resources, academic expectations, cultural norms, and legal considerations. In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet with academic advisors to discuss their course selection and get assistance with any questions they may have.
“I am excited to be a part of the TAMU Passport program,” said Anjali Sharma, an international student from India. “As someone who came to the United States for the first time, I know how important it is to have support during the transition. This program has been incredibly helpful in making me feel at home on campus and in the community.”
In addition to the support services provided through the TAMU Passport program, Texas A&M University has also implemented several initiatives to enhance the overall international student experience. This includes the creation of a new International Student Center, where students can gather, study, and connect with others from around the world.
“The International Student Center is a fantastic addition to our campus,” said Dr. James K. Baker, Provost and Executive Vice President at Texas A&M University. “It serves as a hub for our international students to come together, share their experiences, and build a sense of community. We believe that by fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, we can help all students thrive and succeed during their time at Texas A&M.”
Overall, the introduction of the TAMU Passport program and the International Student Center demonstrate Texas A&M University’s commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. By offering a range of services and resources tailored to the needs of international students, the university aims to enhance the overall student experience and foster a sense of belonging for everyone on campus.
