VFS Global to handle surrender of Indian passports for NRIs
In a move aimed at streamlining the process for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) looking to surrender their Indian passports, the Indian government has appointed VFS Global as the authorized service provider for handling such requests.
The new service, which is set to roll out in the coming months, will allow NRIs to submit their passport surrender applications through VFS Global’s network of centers across various countries. This move is expected to ease the burden on Indian missions and embassies abroad, which currently handle such requests.
The decision to appoint VFS Global as the authorized service provider for Indian passport surrender comes as a result of the increasing number of NRIs who are opting to surrender their Indian passports due to various reasons, such as acquiring foreign citizenship or permanent residency in another country.
Speaking about the new initiative, a spokesperson for VFS Global said, “We are pleased to have been chosen as the trusted partner by the Indian government to handle the surrender of Indian passports for NRIs. This new service is part of our ongoing efforts to provide efficient and convenient solutions to our customers.”
The spokesperson added, “NRIs who wish to surrender their Indian passports can visit any of our centers to submit their applications. Our trained staff will assist them with the process and ensure that their applications are submitted in a timely manner.”
The VFS Global spokesperson also emphasized that the new service is designed to make the passport surrender process more convenient and hassle-free for NRIs. “We understand that surrendering a passport can be a sensitive and important decision for many NRIs. Our aim is to provide a smooth and efficient process that meets their needs and exceeds their expectations,” the spokesperson said.
The appointment of VFS Global as the authorized service provider for Indian passport surrender is expected to benefit NRIs in a number of ways. It will provide them with a more streamlined and efficient process for surrendering their passports, eliminating the need to visit Indian missions or embassies in person.
Moreover, the new service is likely to result in faster processing times for passport surrender applications, as VFS Global’s extensive network of centers will help to expedite the submission and processing of applications.
The move is also expected to free up resources at Indian missions and embassies, allowing them to focus on other essential services for NRIs, such as visa processing and consular assistance.
Overall, the appointment of VFS Global as the authorized service provider for Indian passport surrender is a positive development that will benefit NRIs looking to surrender their Indian passports. By providing a more convenient and efficient process, the new service is expected to make the passport surrender process easier and more accessible for NRIs around the world.
